Empty Bowls Perth is an initiative to enable potters to contribute to the community of Perth by making and selling bowls to provide funds for donations to Foodbank WA. Empty Bowls started in North Carolina in USA in 1990-1. It supports food related charities and has raised millions of dollars around the world to fight poverty.

Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation, providing food relief to over 815,000 people each month. It is a non-denominational, non-profit organisation which works closely with 2,400 charities and 2,500 schools across Australia who use our food in their relief programs.

Foodbank WA was first established in 1994 in Perth and now has a presence in regional WA with distribution centres in Geraldton, Peel, Bunbury, Albany and Kalgoorlie Boulder.

Foodbank WA alone provide over 6.1 million (change this to 6.7 million) meals to our charities partners and schools. However there is still a gap between the amount of food that we distribute and the demand that exists in the community. More information can be found at foodbank.org.au

Our objectives are:
•  Raise awareness of hunger and Foodbank’s role in fighting hunger in WA.
•  Increase community involvement.
•  Fund raise on the day and acquire new donors.
•  Advocate for arts education.

Last year $24,000 was raised which is the equivalent of to. 48,000 meals that will help feed West Aussies in need. The event was attended by over 450 people who bought one or more bowls.

HOW IT WORKS
Potters make and donate bowls to the event.  Tickers cost $30 and can be purchased at
empty-bowls-2024.raiselysite.com. With the ticket they can choose one or more handmade bowls which are displayed on a long table, fill it with hot soup and some bread and then take their bowl home. This takes place over 3 sittings:

10.45am - 12.00pm

12.00pm - 1.15pm

1.15pm - 2.30pm

DONATING SOUP
Soup has to be made in a commercial kitchen so we reach out to venues that would be willing to help this worthy cause.

We also ask for donations for bread and other essentials to make the event work.
All sponsors, donators and volunteers are promoted on the day and mentioned on this website and through social media.

AUCTION
This year we will be having an auction of donated art pieces and all money raised will go to Foodbank WA.

NB: There is ample parking at both carparks of Christ Church Grammar School
