Empty Bowls Perth is an initiative to enable potters to contribute to the community of Perth by making and selling bowls to provide funds for donations to Foodbank WA. Empty Bowls started in North Carolina in USA in 1990-1. It supports food related charities and has raised millions of dollars around the world to fight poverty.

Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation, providing food relief to over 815,000 people each month. It is a non-denominational, non-profit organisation which works closely with 2,400 charities and 2,500 schools across Australia who use our food in their relief programs.

Foodbank WA was first established in 1994 in Perth and now has a presence in regional WA with distribution centres in Geraldton, Peel, Bunbury, Albany and Kalgoorlie Boulder.

Foodbank WA alone provide over 6.7 million meals to our charities partners and schools. However there is still a gap between the amount of food that we distribute and the demand that exists in the community. More information can be found at foodbank.org.au

Our objectives are:

Empty Bowls Perth aims to:

• Raise awareness of hunger in Western Australia and Foodbank WA's vital role in addressing it.

• Encourage community involvement through a unique and meaningful event.

• Raise funds to support Foodbank WA and attract new donors.

• Promote and advocate for arts education while showcasing the work of local ceramic artists.

HOW IT WORKS

Local potters generously create and donate handmade bowls for the event.

Tickets are $30 and will be available from TBA.

Each ticket includes:

• A choice of one handmade bowl from hundreds on display.

• A serving of delicious hot soup with fresh bread.

• Your chosen bowl to take home as a lasting reminder of your contribution.

The event runs over three sittings:

• 10:45 am – 12:00 pm

• 12:00 pm – 1:15 pm

• 1:15 pm – 2:30 pm

DONATING SOUP

All soup served at the event must be prepared in a commercial kitchen. We therefore partner with local cafés, restaurants and catering businesses that generously donate soup to support this worthwhile cause.

We also welcome donations of bread and other essential supplies that help make the event possible.

All sponsors, donors and volunteers are recognised on the day, featured on our website and acknowledged through our social media channels.

AUCTION

Each year, we also hold a special Art Auction in each session, featuring generously donated artworks from local artists.

Every dollar raised through the auction will go directly to Foodbank WA, helping provide even more meals for Western Australians in need.
